Inserting a Rectal Suppository

Rectal suppository for fast temporary relief of constipation

 

 A suppository is often used for the relief of temporary constipation. Bisacodyl, a10mg dose, works as a stimulant laxative. It stimulates the colon to produce a bowel movement in 15 minutes to an hour.


Inserting a Rectal Suppository using a lubricant when inserting a suppository such as one of these ( Super Salve  Surgilube ) will make it easier to insert the suppository.
Normally a finger is used to insert a suppository into the rectum.  However many people feel that they need to use a glove to protect their finger from contamination from feces.

There are several types of suppositories on the market today for constipation.

Glycerin Suppositories are used for the relief of occasional constipation (irregularity). This suppository will produce laxative action in approximately 15 minutes. It does not need to melt to produce this result. For adult use only, may cause rectal discomfort or a burning sensation.

Bisacodyl Suppositories act on contact with the bowel wall, stimulating a bowel movement normally in 15 minutes to 1 hour.

Some suppository manufacturers use a water soluble base that dissolves quickly. while others use a base of hydrogenated vegetable oil that dissolves more slowly.  Some even use a base of cetyl esters wax, hydrogenated vegetable oil and lanolin that dissolves more slowly than the water base but more quickly than other alternatives that we have found.

These products may cause mild abdominal discomfort, faintness, anal or rectal burning, and mild cramps. Do not use any laxative if experiencing nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or cramping.

.  There are other suppositories manufactured for hemorrhoids sufferers. Suppositories temporarily relieves these symptoms associated with hemorrhoids and other anorectal disorders. Helps shrink swelling of irritated hemorrhoid tissues.
Gives prompt temporary relief from the painful burning, itching, and discomfort of hemorrhoids.
 


Feverall is an acetaminophen suppository. Each is 325mg and is used as a pain reliever and fever reducer.
It is the largest  acetaminophen suppository made.
Acetaminophen suppositories are useful if the person cannot take medicines orally.
