The Anus entrance to the rectum or the exit of the colon
The Rectum the last section of the colon before fecal material exits the body through the anus.
The Sigmoid Colon a question marked like shape of the colon after the descending colon and before the rectum.
The Descending Colon, a fairly long section of the colon on the left side of the body cavity
The Transverse Colon is the part of the colon that crosses the body from the left side to the right.
The Ascending Colon is the largest part of colon and extends vertically on the right side of the body from the transverse colon to the cecum and connects to the small intestine . The ascending colon is the part of the colon on the right
side of the abdomen. Aapproximately 12 to 16 in. in length, it is located
between the cecum and the transverse colon. This is the part of the colon that needs to be
filled and distended with solution to an insure a thorough cleaning.
A colon is about 6 feet long. Its primary purpose is to dehydrate and store the liquid stool that enters it.
The Appendix is attached to the intestinal wall in the cecum. Very little is known about the purpose of the appendix.
