The Anus is an external valve that closes off the rectum  from the outside of the body.
It is a ring of muscles that can expand or contract to allow the elimination of feces or gas, and can easily stretch to 2 inches or more diameter.
Oddly enough according to Webster's a meticulous (or someone overly picky) person is considered to be anal.  Are they trying to say " you're such a picky ass? "  At any rate, the diagram below points out the general location of the anus.  Isn't it nice that all of us regardless of race, creed or religious denomination have one?
