Root has a mild laxative effect, increases bile from the gallbladder, and
decreases swelling. Chicory is a rich source of beta-carotene. Chicory is best known as a caffeine free coffee substitute or additive, however it has also been used as a treatment for gout, dyspepsia, and jaundice. In India, the plant is still used by herbalists used to treat dyspepsia, vomiting, diarrhea, headache and skin allergies. Studies have revealed that Chicory can lower pulse rate and reduce cholesterol levels. |
